Splicecom Maximiser - Protecting YOUR Investment
|
 |
| |
|

|

|
| |
SpliceCom Maximiser is a true, next generation
telephone system for business
|
It was designed at the
very beginning of the 21st Century to take advantage
of all the powerful new advances in recently proven
architectures and technologies. Equally as important,
it has been developed to work with – and so maximise
- your existing investment in IT applications and infrastructure.
|
Maximise Your Investment In Web Based Technology
|
| The Gartner Group talks of The Real
Time Enterprise – the use of web-based applications
to reduce the time taken to accomplish every day, “bread
and butter” business tasks. This is achieved by ensuring
that the right information gets to the right people
at the right time. The convergence of voice with IT
applications is the key to achieving the Real Time Enterprise
– Maximiser has been developed from day one to deliver
this advanced service in an easy to implement/simple
to use manner. |
|
SpliceCom’s PCS 50 IP Softphone/Phone
Partner application and PCS 410 colour screen IP Phone
both support integrated web browsers – this allows any
HTML page or content to be directly “pushed” to the
screen of this phone/application. This could be :
- A page on the World Wide Web
- Content from your company’s Intranet
- Images from a Web Cam or IP Video Server
- A customer/supplier record from a web-enabled
application
- Or any other page in HTML format
|

|
 |

|

|
| |
|
|
|
This content can be pushed to the
PCS 410/PCS 50 screen based on a wide range of criteria;
- Incoming Customer/Client CLI
- Department (Group) or DDI number dialled
- Automatically based on time of day/day of week
- In response to an external “action” provided
through a pre-set code dialled on a telephone, a
button being pushed, or an alarm being triggered,
etc,
When linked to a phone call, Maximiser’s configuration
allows the chosen page to be pushed to the phone/application
screen either as the call is presented, or when the
call is answered. This can be individually configured
for each User and Department on the system.
|
Liberate Your Intranet or Website
|
| If you’re running a company
Intranet or hosting your own Website then you’ve already
made a significant investment in web-based technology.
maximiser allows you to get even more from what you
already have. Telephones take up significant “Real Estate”
on every desktop – space that’s essentially wasted when
the phone’s not being used. By building the PCS 410
IP Phone around a large (640 x 480 pixel) full colour
touch-screen, that space is liberated and can now be
used 24/7. A default page can be configured for each
User, which as the browser is effectively “sealed” remains
completely under the change control of the IT manager
– unless they elect otherwise. Most companies make this
default page their Intranet home page – but again it
could be anything, and can be configured individually
for each User. |
 |
 |
 |
In-House Web Development Skills ?
|
| If you already
have in-house personal to develop your website or Intranet,
then you’ve got all you need to make maximiser truly
“sing & dance” to meet your every business need. maximiser
is both configured and managed through a standard web
browser. PHP, a standard, server side scripting language,
is used to action these changes, whilst the Lightweight
Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) standard is used to
dynamically read and write changes to the maximiser
database. |
| This allows any change
that can be made via the system manager, to be built
in to a bespoke page using PHP scripting. For example,
SpiderSystems, a sub-contract IT Management Company
employed by Sir William Perkins’s School, Chertsey,
used PHP Scripting to build a system voicemail page
for the Staffroom PCS 410. This shows which teachers
have outstanding voicemails and allows them to listen
to them after entering their PIN code. |

Get Off My Land !
|
Resource “ownership” takes on critical
importance when migrating to a truly converged business
network. Do different people or groups within your organisation
manage the Application Servers, IP Infrastructure and
Business Telephone System? If the answer’s yes, are
you in a position to unite their sometimes-disparate
goals, wants and needs for the greater good of the company?
The SpliceCom Maximser allows you to side-step all of
these potential issues by offering all these components
within the overall system design – should you choose
to use them. Each Call Server and Remote Call Server
contains an integrated Apache Web Server, allowing customised
web pages to be mounted internally without the need
to involve those responsible for the company’s Application
Servers. Even simple database applications can be hosted
on the Maximiser Call Server/Remote Call Server using
MySQL – again totally independent of existing applications.
For information on how to deploy the SpliceCom Maximiser
independently from your existing IP infrastructure please
see the
IP
Telephony section.

Traditional CTI Supported Here
|

|
| Despite the advanced web-enabled
convergence capabilities enabled by the deployment of
Maximiser, SpliceCom recognise that there will still
be a need for the integration of legacy applications
that cannot be web enabled. As such support for TAPI
is provided for the Windows environment and AppleScript
for those using Apple Macintosh. |
Your LAN Infrastructure is “Maximiser Ready”
|
| SpliceCom Maximiser's distributed architecture
allows you to overlay it on your existing LAN infrastructure,
where it will continue to deliver service, totally independent
to any network changes and equipment upgrades you will
make as your needs evolve. PBX replacement, separate
LANs for voice & data or a fully converged network –
maximiser fits all needs. This enables you to enjoy
significant cost savings by using your distributed cabling
system for phone calls – even if your LAN switches don’t
support Quality of Service (QoS). For more details see
the
IP Telephony page. |

Existing PBX? Replace or Migrate
|
| If you're looking to replace your existing
business phone system then the investment protection
offered by SpliceCom's Maximiser is likely to be a key
factor in your decision making process. You can install
the required number of SpliceCom Maximiser modules,
Call Server, Trunk and Phone, in a single cabinet in
exactly the same manner as a traditional PBX and retain
your existing investment in copper plant. By terminating
your existing twisted pair cabling with RJ-45 connectors
they can be directly connected to the Maximiser Phone
Modules. Maximiser also allows you to retain your existing
investment in traditional analogue phones – but provides
far greater facilities. A single connection from the
Splicecom Call Server fed into your existing LAN network
is all it takes to further energise your existing phones
by allowing them to work in “Partnership” with SpliceCom’s
PCS 50 application running on Windows, Apple Mac OS
X or Linux PCs. This delivers all the system features
& facilities provided by SpliceCom’s top of the range
PCS 410 IP Phone to analogue phone users. For more details
see the
IP
Telephony page. |
|

|
Not ready to change your existing PBX
yet, but need to expand the number of extensions and
trunks or add new facilities? SpliceCom Maximiser can
connect to your existing telephone system via Primary
Rate or Basic Rate ISDN S-Bus connections or DPNSS.
We’ve already added some specific features to provide
a very cost effective and feature rich migration strategy
for those currently using the SDX Business Systems/Lucent/Avaya
INDeX system. We’re planning to do the same for Mitel
SX2000, Siemens/Plessey/GPT iSDX/Realitis & BT/Nortel
Meridian users as well.

For True Business Benefits Think “What” Not “How”
|
The treatment of telephone calls is
changing. Whilst telephone systems used to stand alone,
totally isolated from computer hardware and software,
voice has now moved centre stage in its new role as
a key IT application for many forwarded thinking organizations.
As with all new technology forms it's very easy to lose
sight of the true commercial value in Business Telephony,
which lies in what's delivered - not how it's delivered.
At SpliceCom, we believe that the ability to take a
digital business phone and replace it's 4-wire proprietary
interface with a LAN connection, could potentially provide
cost savings, but it doesn't provide any significant
business benefits. This can only be achieved when IP-Enabled
PBXs give way to pure IP PBXs allowing voice to be treated
as another, albeit a very significant, IT application.
Only then will true convergence, that of voice with
web-enabled business applications, become a reality.
As such, we still feel that the massive installed base
of analogue telephones will still have a significant
role to play in this converged future - connected via
the LAN and with the ability to be used in conjunction
with a platform independent application - until such
time that low-cost IP Phones can be delivered at the
same, or better, price point. |
